Course Description
-Students will receive comprehensive training in this Natural Chinese Massage for the head, shoulders, and neck taught by the founder, Dr. Bin Jiang Wu. -Tui Na (Chinese Medicinal Massage) is known for its effectiveness in treating a number of disease, ailments and illness, as well as being a wonderful modality for inspiring relaxation and relief from painful joint and muscles. - Course includes the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine foundation theories, plus various Self-Massage and Cosmetic Enhancing Techniques. - Opportunities to become a Wu's Head Massage Facilitator. - 30 CEU’s granted upon completion of course. A. learning outcome
At the completion of this course, students will be able to:
a. Demonstrate the content of the traditional Chinese Medicine theory used in Wu’s Head Massage
b. Describe the massaging acupoints on the scalp and facial area with Tuina massage techniques.
c. Use this specialized massage to treat the local (head, neck and face) areas and illness, as well as illness in the entire body. Using this massage can enhance the bodies overall health and has anti-aging effects.
B. Specific Course Instructions
This course is divided into 6 units of study. Each unit contains the specific objectives that the student is responsible for achieving.
Unit 1-introduction of WHM
Upon completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1. Summarize the development and history of WHM
2. Outline and explain the characteristics of WHM with examples (concepts of face, head ear stimulation areas etc.)
3. Describe the specific course of the meridians on the head-face and neck
4. Demonstrate knowledge of the course of the 3 Yang meridians of the hand and foot on the head-face and neck regions.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of the course of the Du and Ren meridians on the face and neck.
6. Describe the methods for locating acupoints.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of the 40 main acupoints on the head-face and neck.
8. Describe the stimulation areas of the face, head, and the ear
9. Describe the 10 commonly used manipulations.
10. Demonstrate knowledge (Verbal and practical) of the effects of kneading, rubbing, grasping, pressing, digit-pressing, patting, tapping, holding-twisting, wiping.
Unit 2 to unit 5 – Specific Instructions on manipulations
Upon completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1. Describe the 60 sets of specific manipulations
2. Explain the methods and effects of the 60 sets of manipulations
Unit 6 – self massage of the head
-cosmetic and anti-aging effects of head massage
Upon completion of this unit, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of the basic techniques of self massage for the head
2. Describe the health care massage for the eyes, nose, ears and head
3. Explain the cosmetic principles of WHM
4. Describe the anti-aging effects of WHM
Unit 7 – Final exam
C. Course Structure and Content
This course covers the theory and practical components of Wu’s Head Massage, beginning with a basic understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine theories, followed by interactive and practical training in the 60 manipulations of WHM. Students will also learn the benefits and manipulations of self-massage for the head, as well as manipulations for the ears, eyes, and nose. Students will also learn the theories behind the anti-aging and health enhancing effects and benefits of WHM.
This course consists of 45 hours, including lectures, discussions and practice. There will be 2 exams and 15 hours of home work practice, totalling 60 hours.
D. Instructional Strategies
This course will be presented using a variety of modalities including lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and small group work in tutorials. Students will be involved in interactive ways to gain knowledge, and apply the theories and techniques of WHM.
Tutorials:
1. A schedules period during which a faculty member reviews, integrates or expands on information already received by the student during lectures.
2. Provide the opportunity for individual clarification of course materials
3. review group discussion results
4. Discuss and review tests and exams.
Lectures
Using TCM perspectives and terminology to explain the effects and benefits, including the cosmetic and anti-aging effects of WHM, it’s effectiveness for the prevention of and treatment of diseases.
E. Attendance Requirements
In support of student learning, the faculty highly recommends that it is in the student’s best benefit to attend all classes. Participation in all course activities is expected. Attendance will be monitored. Evaluations will be based upon all learning objectives.
F. Evaluation
Successfully completion of this course requires that the students achives a 60% or higher grade.
